Pulës

PULËS

Pulës has been produced since ancient times mainly as pergolas and arbors rather than in vineyards, similar to Ceruja and others. Known as the ‘grape of the centuries,’ it is concentrated in the regions of Berat, Elbasan, Mallakastër, Përmet, Skrapar, Tepelenë. The white Pulës wine has a gold or ignited chestnut or greenish color, a full to medium body, and strong floral and fruity bouquets. Pulës has a taste of ripe fruits and somewhat herbal. Its fresh, much-desired taste is felt intensely and for a long time in the mouth. It contains 12-14% alcohol by volume and 5-6 g/l tartaric acid on average tannin. Among the Albanian white wines, Pulës stands out with its high alcohol content and average acidity. Pulës wine has a taste of mountain tea but also of minerals because the grapes are produced from vines with very deep roots as they grow in stony soils at the foot of the mountains, especially Mount Tomorr. It is a high-quality table wine but can also age well. Pulës wine has also been presented in the “International Atlas of Wines”. At the table, it is served at a temperature of 12 °C. The consumption of Pulës wine pairs well with fish dishes, other white meats, and soft cheeses. The most renowned wineries for the production of Pulës wine are mainly in Berat: ALPETA in Roshnik, ÇOBO at Ura Vajgurore, HODAJ in Malinat, NURELLARI, and PUPA in Fushë Peshtan; as well as ZIKA-DERVENI in Bykysh – Tepelenë and UKA in Laknas – Tirana
